Job Description

At 5th Column, we are looking for exceptional concept artists to hop aboard and contribute to the growing world of our first IP; Rengoku Legends. This is a unique opportunity to build an IP from the ground up in a new way.

You will be working with our directors to push our IPs to the next level of creativity and design work. We are looking for artists that demonstrate a clear understanding of the entire concept artwork pipeline, from design to final.

The world has rapidly changed in the past few years, not only in the way we can tell stories and build worlds but also in how we work. Due to this, we are currently promoting a remote-only studio and are seeking artists from across the globe who’d love to join our team. We are open to flexible working conditions and hours to best accommodate your needs.

Note: This role will revolve around an NFT-based project

Skills & Requirements

From our experiences in top studios, we are always looking for ways to streamline our pipeline for the most efficient processes but at the same time, we want to celebrate the artist and their own workflows.

In our Character Concept Artists, we are looking for the following;

  • Adaptability - Due to the nature of our story-telling process, we require artists to be able to think on their feet in their artwork and adapt to new requirements.

  • Feedback skills - Working in a concept environment, we expect you to not only receive but give feedback on both your peers' work and your own. We can all learn something from each other

  • Ability to work from a set brief and also blue sky briefs - Sometimes our briefs will be minimal and left to your own artistic interpretation.

  • Time management - Due to the nature of this project it's important that artists can manage their time well and scope out the time their process will take them.

  • Learn and teach  - We are fostering an environment where artists feel open sharing techniques and help lift each other to the next level.

About the Company

About us

Founded by top-tier industry concept artists; Connor Sheehan and Jack Jones, 5th Column is a studio laser-sighted on pushing new and existing intellectual properties to their fullest potential. We are driven by the prospect of spearheading the boundaries of worldbuilding, storytelling, art, and design.

Rengoku Legends

Rengoku Legends is our genesis project. An innovative community-driven IP on the blockchain. The world is based on a fictional Sengoku/Edo period japan crossed with cosmic horror elements. The project sold out in an insane 20 seconds and we are building the future for the world of Rengoku.

The main goal with Rengoku is to build a new IP from the ground up with our driven and engaged community. To do this, we are hosting an 8 chapter large-scale D&D-style story campaign where members of our 7 clans dictate what moves their clan will make in the story. Each holder of one of our Samurai will be able to participate, earn and customize through our story and tokenization systems. Their choices and emergent narratives will inspire our concept artwork that will fill the preproduction bible for the future game-dev ambitions of Rengoku.

As a team, we will be creating artwork, designs, and worldbuilding imagery to accommodate not only the story but the entire world. We are also investing in a high-fidelity in-game environment that will be home to a museum that will chronicle the artwork of Rengoku.

As 5th Column, we are working with Rengoku on worldbuilding, storytelling, character, and environment design as well as supporting the large-scale D&D-style campaign with concept artwork and illustration.

Grapic Designer or Illustrator

Arctic Lynx Games
Remote

Job Description

Arctic Lynx Games is looking for a Graphical Designer and/or Illustrator who is interested in joining the company as an equal partner and shareholder.

Work will initially be focused on the launch of our first board game – Space Lane Trader, working on adverts, kickstarter page, company web-page and finalizing the design of the last bits of game components.

You will be responsible for the graphic design and/or illustrations for future tabletop games working closely with the company´s three other owners, trying out different game mechanics, doing playtesting etc. We are a team that works together to realize the games we want to publish, and we divide the tasks that needs to be done between us. Sharkmob is on an epic journey, and we want you to join us! Come explore new territory in the realm of AAA online gaming. Our studios are working on three new titles, the first being a battle royal twist to Vampire: The Masquerade. We are looking for people who want to have fun at work, share ownership, and make smart decisions. Responsible people who have a positive attitude, are passionate, and value professionalism. People that follow our guiding principle, “don’t be an asshole.”

Have fun making games

We are fortunate to work with things we are passionate about and we have the privilege of creating entertainment for others to enjoy. We believe that if we have fun making games, people will have fun playing them. Fun is also about daring to do mighty things that allow us to reach levels of achievement. All things said, we want a fun, professional experience & so we all must lead by example.

Share the ownership

We want everyone to feel like they have a stake in the games we make. Our games are not the brainchild of a few people - we own them together. Everyone’s contributions, opinion, and feedback matters. For this to work, everyone needs to respect the big picture and high-level goals of the project. Shared ownership is at the heart of the Sharkmob adventure.

Make smart decisions

Making games is kind of like rocket science—but harder!

Senior Technical Artist

Sharkmob
Sweden

Job Description

Sharkmob is looking for a Senior Technical Artist!

Are you that bridge betwixt code and art? Are you fluent in ones and zeros and can translate that to “designerspeak”? Do you have that creative spark that allows you to create tools that save countless artists’ lives (or maybe save them a few seconds every time they click on that one button)? Then you might be the person we are looking for!

You will work closely with artists, designers, programmers, and many other disciplines in this role. Like a spider sitting in their web, you will be connected to everything and everyone. You will sit together with an Art Director, telling them what they can and cannot do with regards to technical implementations. And when they tell you that they really want it anyway, you’ll be the one to conduct RnD and see if we actually can do it, even though reason tells you we should not.

We’ll stick a magnifying glass in your hand and tell you that you’re now Sherlock Holmes because you’ll be tracking down performance issues like a master detective. Guiding and mentoring other tech artist as well as the art department will become your second nature. But you must also be strict because they will test you and try to sneak in poorly optimized asset, and it is up to you how you choose to help them.

If that wasn’t enough, you’ll get six weeks of paid vacation and you get to work on a game with vampires. After all that, we know what you are thinking... “When can I sign?” Woah, slow down there, reach out to us and we’ll schedule an interview to see if we can match that fantastic energy of yours.

Skills & Requirements

Your essentials

  • Experience with mentoring other technical artists. You will provide feedback to other technical artists on how to grow and improve their processes as we advance. You will also enable and support them by making sure that they have everything they need to solve their tasks.
  • Shipped at least one previous AAA title.
  • Excellent communication skills as you will be working closely with your team and with other departments.
  • Strong problem-solving and prototyping abilities. You will face tasks and requests that are not clearly defined and work together with other departments to figure out what you can achieve and how best to achieve it.
  • A true team player since a large part of our job is solving problems for others, and you need to be able to support artists/designers with their work.

All the best!
/Sharkmob Tech Art Team
