What Will You Be Doing?

  • Using lighting, set dressing, atmosphere and more to craft coherent and believable worlds that excite and emote the player. Being responsible for entire levels or sections of play.
  • Collaborating closely with level designers and other parts of team to ensure the final levels are strong across all aspects, being involved from grey box to full prop placement and dressing.
  • Staging and implementing lighting and atmosphere for levels to deliver mood, tone and draw the player through the 3D space.
  • Getting involved with conceiving and visualising the core concepts for in-game environments.

Skills & Requirements

  • An environment/ lighting artist with at least 1+ years’ experience or a relevant degree/equivalent qualification.
  • Someone with a strong working knowledge of 3D asset development: form, sculpting, surface detail, material creation, LODs, foliage design and implementation etc. A good sense of composition to use those assets in fully realised game levels.
  • Lighting experience to light levels, creating the right atmosphere, emotions, and to draw the player into the full gameplay experience.
  • An artist experienced with the use of real-time engines (e.g. UE4) and relevant tools (Maya, Z-Brush etc.). Illustrative and storyboarding skills are not essential but are a bonus
  • A true team player, able to work collaboratively as a part of a multidiscipline team plus the initiative, personal drive and organisation skills to deliver excellent results on time.

Sansar is looking for a creative, technically-intuitive, and detail-oriented person who is passionate about being a key member of a small but mighty virtual reality events team. This position will be the bridge between the in-house art team (Studios) and our Business Development department, acting as liaison across our external clients and internal product, to take the helm of events' technical execution for a seamless VR show.

As the Technical Event Producer, you will be responsible for assessing our partners' needs, creating strategies around execution of said needs, and managing those needs through the entire run-of-show. Our team has worked a diverse variety of innovative leaders in the creative and corporate domains, including: Intel, the Smithsonian Institution (No Spectators: The Art of Burning Man), Warner Bros. (Ready Player One), Sanrio (Hello Kitty), Glastonbury Festival (Shangri-La), Monstercat, Yultron, and Reggie Watts.

The right candidate for this role is preferably located in the San Francisco Bay Area to collaborate in our office when the pandemic subsides, but we're also open to remote possibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Take code and rearrange it fluently during live events if needed.
  • Oversee the entire lifecycle of marquee events: pre-planning and rehearsal, administrating the live show as it happens, and compiling learnings and gathering post-mortems after the event.
  • Set up events on the technical side to achieve the creative vision, which involves being hands-on with editing content such as adding props and set dressing to 3D worlds, implementing scripts, owning the camera filming workflow, streaming videos to external platforms, etc.
  • Work with the Business Development Team, the Marketing Team, and the Art Team's Creative Director and Production Team to manage asks vs. resources
  • Report to the Production Director and keep information flowing between external clients and our inhouse team
  • Create event promo videos & marketing assets before the event, and record and stream (OBS, Twitch, YouTube) events for marketing collateral afterwards. Also, review these materials and revise with stakeholders.
  • Anticipate technical issues before they become substantial problems, make stakeholders preemptively aware of possible points of failure and perform risk analysis so that alternate solutions and workarounds can be devised.
  • Create templates and document best practices for events, and other content about using Sansar and making external tools work better with it.
  • If situated remotely, comfortable with occasional travel to the office. (When travel is reinstated.)

Qualifications

  • Ability to take code and rearrange it fluently. Need to show an Understanding of modular "logic/node-based/if-then" scripting systems (PLEASE SHOW THIS IN YOUR RESUME) and adding interactivity to art content. Connecting "building blocks" to trigger event visual effects and other exciting immersion. Experience with other engines like Unreal and Unity is helpful.
  • Bachelors Degree in related field or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of experience in roles managing/interfacing with a software engineering or technically-oriented content team. For example, product/program/project/QA manager, CG/VFX supervisor. You must be able to write easy-to-understand workflow and design specs.
  • A background in live event and/or event production experience (concerts, trade shows, etc.), with a proven portfolio of successful showrunning.

Overview

WildBrain is looking for a Lead Surfacing/Texture Artist for an undisclosed 3D project! This project is a 3D feature quality episodic production. We can’t say what it is yet, but it is an action oriented global franchise with beloved characters! Knowledge in Katana and Arnold an asset.

In this role, you have exceptional skills and experience in surfacing and texturing in Substance. You create characters, props and set models that accurately represent the artistic goals and story concepts of the production.   • Document and train artists in approved 2D and 3D techniques and methods;
  • Maintain a balance between day to day work and improving workflows;
  • Be involved in the development and rendering of artwork, modelling, animation and texturing when required;
  • Support the Technical Art Director with any ad hoc tasks and duties.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Proactive and results orientated;
  • Willingness to share knowledge openly;
  • Working knowledge of standard office software such as Word, Excel, OneNote etc.;
  • Knowledge of industry standard software packages such as Maya, 3DSMax, Photoshop etc.;
  • Understanding of platform strengths and limitations; 
  • Knowledge of art asset pipelines; 
  • Aptitude for scripting and programming using languages such as Max Script, Python, C Sharp etc.; 
  • Strong time management and prioritisation skills; 
  • Technical proficiency in areas of 2D and 3D art;
  • Ability to understand and communicate technical issues from an aesthetic point of view.

Relevant Experience

  • 2 – 3 years’ experience as a Technical Artist or other relevant experience; 
  • Bachelor’s degree in art, design, technical discipline or other relevant training; 
  • Experience in the video game industry is essential.
