At Massive, you get to do what you love the most while bringing your own exceptional performance into our ongoing projects, like Tom Clancy’s The Division 2, Avatar, Snowdrop, or Uplay.

We want to hear your opinions. As part of the Massive family, you are encouraged to make your voice heard regardless of your position or how long you’ve been at the studio.

Curiosity is key in crafting the best games experience possible. It might sound strange, but we encourage you to take risks and to have the courage to challenge not only yourself in what you do, but also the ways we do things in the studio. And it’s okay if the risk results in failure.

Without failure, we can never grow in our roles or find new solutions to the challenges we face – together – every day. Be brave, because behind you, you have the support of the Massive family.

WE NEED YOU TO MAKE THE BEST GAMES POSSIBLE

Massive is growing – rapidly, and we are looking for the best talents to join our studio. With our move to our new office building Eden, Tom Clancy’s The Division 2, and the Avatar Project, we are heading towards an exciting future.

About the Company

COVID-19 NOTE

Iron Galaxy employees are all working from home until April or May 2021 due to COVID-19. This WFH policy extends to anyone that Iron Galaxy hires between now and then. All new-hire onboarding is being done remotely, and any equipment that you might need for projects at Iron Galaxy will be shipped directly to you.

-

Iron Galaxy is one of the world's largest independent video game developers, delivering both home-built, original experiences and partners' visions to all platforms.

Early history

In 2008 Dave Lang was working at Midway Games Chicago as its Studio Tech Director. After years of working at the Publisher, the ambiguity of Midway's financial situation led Dave to start Iron Galaxy. Originally envisioned as a tech consulting firm that would focus on helping Publishers and Developers meet their goals, Dave was the only employee for the first six months. After this period of testing the waters, Dave teamed up with several of his former teammates from Midway and the company grew into a modest, eight-person shop. In 2010, the company expanded its efforts into doing ports for publishers, with their first notable success being Street Fighter III 3rd Strike Online Edition for Capcom. This was the first project Iron Galaxy completed without another development partner.

After that

Iron Galaxy initially made its mark in the industry as a porting house. Then in 2011, Iron Galaxy set their sights on the company's first original game, Wreckateer, which was published in 2012. After Wreckateer, the company opened up a second studio in Orlando to assist with Divekick, and after Divekick the team got a chance to work on the largest original production yet for Iron Galaxy: Killer Instinct Seasons 2 and 3. Despite these successes, the team never forgot their roots, and they still do tech consulting and ports to this day; having worked on some of their partners' most established brands like Bioshock, Call of Duty, Destiny, Batman, Elder Scrolls and Diablo 3.

As we continue to work on our own unannounced IP and port projects for AAA studios, we continually push the creative, technical and artistic skills of our colleagues, with the goal of sustaining our world-class standards while we grow. By joining our team, you can explore the limits of your imagination while gaining experience on a wide range of game development projects.

UE4 Level Designer / Lighting Artist

Sinn Studio Inc.
Remote

Job Description

We're looking for an Unreal Engine 4 level designer and lighting artist to join our team for a new and exciting project in the VR space. We can't publicly disclose too much information here, but the game is slated for a Q2, 2022 release on all major (VR) platforms including the PlayStation, Steam, Oculus and Viveport stores.

________________________________________________

Style
Dark and atmospheric sci-fi, think Dead Space.

Workload
You'll be designing four environment sets, each with three parts: a "Hero" scene (larger space, something like the deck of a space ship), a "Room" (smaller space, something the player can only briefly explore for loot) and a "Corridor" (the hallway connecting the two previous spaces). These environment sets will be used as direct reference for when we do the full layout of the game world later. Each set will differ in some way from the others. One might be for an engineering bay, for example. Another might be for a civilian bay, and so on.

Limitations
Considering the hardware limitations of VR games (especially console VR), we'll need to find a good balance between quality and performance whilst using, ideally, no dynamic shadows (with the option to enable them on higher-end PC VR hardware). Achieving the desired atmosphere will be a key challenge.

Assets
All art and assets will be provided and you'll also have opportunities in creative direction during meetings. We want anyone working on our games to feel good about the decisions made and discussion is always encouraged. You will not need to produce any 3D assets yourself or optimize the game (other than considering the limitations mentioned in the previous section when designing the levels).

________________________________________________

Benefits

  • Flexible schedule

Duration
Minimum 3 months with possibility to extend to 6, 9 or longer.

Rate
TBD

Skills & Requirements

  • Level design 4 reference sets (see job description for details, "Workload")
  • Lighting (with certain limitations, see job description for details, "Limitations")
  • Perforce for source control (a guide will be provided if unfamiliar)
  • Compile engine from source (a guide will be provided if unfamiliar)
  • Attend two weekly meetings (Monday, 10am EST: planning and Friday, 10am EST: overview)
  • 40 hours per week (full-time)
  • Discord account (free) for communication

Bonus: experience in the sci-fi genre

  • Bonus: performance optimization
